Overview of the project

This CDC HL7 Immunization and Vaccine Adverse Event Reports (VAERS) Message Transport and Parser Project is two sets of public domain open source software tools for State Immunization Information System (SIIS) to securely exchange immunization and VAERS information in Health Level Seven (HL7) messages over the Internet.

The two projects are:

  1. HTTPS Message Receiver: Java Server Pages to accept and parse HL7 messages containing Immunization and Vaccine Adverse Event Reports (VAERS) information.
  2. Immunization Program: A Windows program to collect and send HL7 messages containing Immunization and Vaccine Adverse Event Reports (VAERS) information.

Both of these programs work off the same Chameleon Visual Message Definition (VMD) file. The Chameleon program routines are used for generating and parsing the HL7 message stream.

This current version of the VMD was put up December 18, 2002. Please check back as updates are put up regularly.
